Description
Position Overview The JL Mann Academy Band Program is seeking a motivated and experienced Brass & Visual Technician to join the Marching Patriots staff for the 2026–2027 school year. This individual will work closely with the Director of Bands and instructional staff to develop the musical excellence and visual performance quality of the brass section within a highly motivated and competitive marching band program. The ideal candidate will possess strong teaching skills, a deep understanding of marching fundamentals, and experience with the visual demands of high-performing marching ensembles. Candidates with Drum Corps International (DCI) experience as a performer and/or instructor are strongly encouraged to apply.
Requirements
Primary Responsibilities
Brass Instruction
Teach and develop the marching band brass section during rehearsals, sectionals, and camps.
Reinforce tone production, articulation, balance, and ensemble blend within the brass section.
Assist with music rehearsal strategies that support ensemble excellence.
Provide feedback and individualized instruction to help students improve performance skills.
Visual Instruction
Teach marching fundamentals, posture, body carriage, and movement technique.
Assist students with understanding drill responsibilities and field awareness.
Reinforce visual consistency and performance quality throughout the ensemble.
Visual Design Support
Collaborate with the Director of Bands on visual concepts and staging ideas for the marching program.
Contribute creative ideas related to movement, choreography, and visual impact moments within the show design.
Assist with cleaning visual performance throughout the season.
Rehearsal Support
Attend scheduled rehearsals including:
Band camp
After-school rehearsals
Selected weekend rehearsals
Competitions and performances
Support a positive, disciplined, and motivating rehearsal environment.
