General
The SCBDA offers a free music theory test at three different levels as a courtesy to band directors. This test can be used to assess students on their music theory skills and terminology. The theory test can be accessed below and can be printed and administered to students at the discretion of the director when appropriate during the school year.
The Music Theory Test is no longer a part of the Solo & Ensemble Event.
Levels
(There are two variations of each level test.)
- Middle School: Eighth Grade and below
- Clinic: Grades 9 and 10
- Senior: Grades 11 and 12
Preparatory Materials
(There are two variations of each level test.)
- Middle School: Master Theory Books I and 2 and Junior All-State Band terms
- Clinic: Master Theory Books 1 – 3 and Senior All-State Band terms.
- Senior: Master Theory Books 1 – 4 and Senior All-State Band terms.
Awards
- Students scoring 90 – 100 points may purchase a medal.
- No points will be awarded toward the OPA.
