Greetings and welcome back!
It is truly an honor to serve as your SCBDA President, and I’m excited for the year ahead. I look forward to working alongside our Executive Board to continue providing meaningful and memorable experiences for both you and your students.
A heartfelt thank you to Leslie Gilreath and Chuck Deen for their leadership and mentorship. I’m grateful for the opportunity to have learned from them. Please also join me in welcoming Alicia Crutchlow as our new President-Elect! We’re equally thrilled to have Tim Lawson as our new Awards Chair, Rick Langdale as our new Conference Chair, and Dr. Cormac Cannon stepping in as Collegiate Chair.
As we begin the 2025–2026 school year, I encourage you to seek out opportunities to support and uplift one another. Let’s continue to collaborate, mentor, and share ideas as we pursue our shared mission of enriching students’ lives through music. I also urge you to stay involved in SCBDA—whether by serving on a committee, attending meetings, staffing events, or helping out wherever you see a need. Your voice and your efforts matter.
Important Reminders:
Registration is now open for the SCBDA Marching Championships and the CPA Permanent List. The deadline for both is August 15. Please note that the CPA music approval process has been updated this year: music for the permanent list must now be submitted for review at the Fall Meeting. The supplemental list process will remain the same and take place in January, but will apply only to this year’s CPA event. You’ll find all registration information on the Registrations & Forms page in the Directors Area of Bandlink.
Mark your calendars for the Fall Meeting on Saturday, September 6, at River Bluff High School. This is a great opportunity to reconnect, welcome new members, participate in committee meetings, and of course, witness the always-anticipated marching band draw.
Lastly, I want to remind everyone of the professional standards we uphold as members of SCBDA. Let’s strive to be professional, informed, and dependable. The website contains everything you need: the SCBDA Handbook, event calendars, and a wealth of helpful resources. I strongly encourage you to review these materials and reach out to the appropriate contacts if you have any questions or concerns.
Wishing each of you a safe, successful, and rewarding season. As always, if there’s anything I or the Board can do to support you, don’t hesitate to reach out.
Sincerely,
Dr. Adam Scheuch
President, South Carolina Band Directors Association
