Registering students to audition for Region Band.

1.  The registration deadline is November 7, 2008.  Any registration form postmarked November 8-14, 2008, will be assessed a late fee of $2.00 per registered student.  Region Chairmen will not accept any registration that is postmarked after November 14, 2008.  (Directors should note that this is a postmark deadline.  Registering on Band Link on or before November 7, but getting a postmark date of November 8-14, 2008, will require that late fees be added.)  All changes or corrections to the registration form (ie: Clinic to Senior; Alto Sax to Tenor Sax; Snare to Timpani; etc.) must be given to the Region Chairman in writing postmarked on or before the late registration date of November 14, 2008.  Additions or changes to the original registration form between November 8-14, will require that late fees be added.

2. An audition fee of $10.00 per student must be included with the registration form.  Directors are asked to send one check for the entire amount of the registration fee.  Make the check payable to SCBDA.

3.  Home schooled students may participate under the following stipulations:
     a)  Home schooled students must participate in a home school band program.
     b)  Home school band student's families must be a member of a South Carolina Home School Association.
     c)  Home school band students must register through their band director, who must be a member of SCBDA. (see Chapter 1; Article III of the  S.C. Musicians Handbook)  Parents of home school students and private studio teachers or instructors may not register students.
     d)  Directors must send documentation of home school students family's SCHSA membership in lieu of a principal's signature.

4.  Students enrolled in the Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities will be required to audition in their "home region".  The director of the Governor's School will be responsible for registering these students and getting the completed forms to the correct Region Chairman within the registration deadline.  These students would still be listed as Governor's School  students and the Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities would receive credit toward the Concert Achievement Award for any of them that make either the Region or All-State bands.

5.  Directors are asked to register students for auditions through the  Band Link Online Registration.   These forms must be submitted through the website once all the information is correct and complete.  Directors will also be required to print a copy of these forms and mail them to the region chairman.  Remember that if a director chooses to resubmit a corrected registration form and it is during the late registration time period, November 8-14, 2008, then the appropriate late fees ($2 per student) must be added.

6.  Only the Band Director may register students to audition for Region or All-State Band He/she must be a current member of SCBDA and MENC to register students and for his/her students to be eligible to participate in ANY event sponsored by SCBDA.   Directors are asked to register only those students whom, in the director's opinion, possess the caliber of  musicianship which would prove to be an asset to either the Region or All-State band.  The director is also responsible for knowing that each of his/her students is cognizant of all of the audition requirements.

7.  Region Chairmen will mail the audition schedules on or before December 5, 2008.  If an error is discovered after the schedule is mailed out, and the error is determined to have occurred during the region chairman's scheduling process, then the director must notify the region chairman in writing on or before December 12, 2008.  After December 12, 2008, the region audition schedule is final and changes of any kind, regardless of their origin, will not be made.

8.  All directors registering students will be required to judge or work in some capacity at the Region and All-State Auditions unless released in advance by the Chairman who is overseeing the auditions.  Students attending the school(s) of any director who refuses to work in some capacity will be ineligible to audition and will forfeit their registration fees.  Any director who fails to fulfill his/her judging responsibility, for any reason whatsoever, without permission from the chairman in advance, will have the audition results from the school(s) at which he teaches removed from the audition process.  Students who attend the school(s) at which this  director teaches will forfeit their audition fee and lose the right to participate in the Region or All-State Band audition process for the remainder of the school year.  It should also be noted that in schools with two or more directors, that ALL directors and assistants (who are current members of SCBDA and MENC) must comply with these guidelines in order for students from that school to remain eligible to compete in the Region and/or All-State Band audition process.

9.  The order of the Final auditions will be determined by randomizing the students within each audition group.  This schedule will be done without regard for regions or schools that normally travel together.  Late registrants will be scheduled first

10.  After submitting the Online Registration Form on Band Link, directors must print a copy and mail it to the correct Region Chairman.  Click here to view Region Map.  Addresses for the Region Chairman are:
