All required snare drum rudiments are selected from The Standard 26 American Drum Rudiments and will be selected from the Percussive Arts Society (PAS) .

Except for the single stroke and the long roll, all rudiments will be played at the listed minimum flat speed, six (6) repetitions each, within a two minute time limit.  Except for the single stoke and the long roll, all rudiments will not be played in the traditional rudimental style, open to close to open.  The single stoke and the long roll will be played open-close-open and will not be included within the two minute time limit.

Technical Proficiency for Timpani

Timpani TUNING will not be judged separately, but in conjunction with the tuning of the SOLO and the two Sight-Reading selections.  If tunings are exactly duplicated in the sight-reading selections and/or solo, the judges may hear other tunings to ensure three different ones.  Tuning will account for 15 points.  The Chromatic equivalent will be that a timpani player will perform the following:  #1 -  fp crescendo  and  #2 - diminuendo roll.  These will account for 5 points total.  The tuning of the timpani will be judged as the student prepares to perform the solo and the two sight-readings.

The tunings will be timed as follows:

                        Junior Band    = 2 minutes

                        Clinic Band     = 1.5 minutes

                        Senior Band    = 1 minute

Junior Tunings will include perfect 4ths and 5ths only.  Clinic and Senior tunings could include ALL intervals.
