The Walhalla H. S. Band Boosters cordially invite your band to the
3rd Annual
Oconee County Marching Band Clinic and Contest / Festival on Saturday
Sept.
18, 2004 in the beautiful new Walhalla H. S. Stadium. Bands May wish
in the
entire day of events: Clinic and Contest or the Festival / Contest only.
Who should participate in the Clinic?
Any band wishing to improve their show, and possibly learn some new techniques
should
participate in the clinic portion of the event. Competitive, Festival
Only, Small, Medium, or Large Bands can benefit from the sessions during
the clinic and contest. Please have at least 5
minutes of your show on the field. Of course the more you have ready
the more the clinicians
can assist you to reaching the next performance level.
The Clinic Format
All bands registered for the clinic portion of the event will have the
opportunity to participate in
the following:
a. 30 minute warm-up.
b. 1 hour to march your show and receive immediate field clinic.
c. 45 minutes music rehearsal in our beautiful auditorium.
d. 45 minute color guard rehearsal in our gym.
e. 45 minute percussion rehearsal in our indoor facility.
The Contest / Festival Format
Bands may choose to participate in the contest / festival only. The contest
will start following the clinic events. There will be four classes determined
by the natural break of all bands planning to compete based on horn line “woodwinds,
and brass only”. Those bands participating for a festival rating
will not receive a numerical score, only the final rating from the clinicians
/ adjudicators.
Clinicians and Contest / Festival Adjudicators Scores
All bands will receive a complimentary video tape of their performance
as well as
audio tapes from the Clinicians / Adjudicators
For the clinic portion bands will receive comments from the following:
Music, Marching, General Effect, Percussion, and Color Guard / Dance
Guard.
For the Contest / Festival bands will be judged on the following:
Music, Marching, General Effect, Percussion, Color Guard / Dance Guard,
and Drum Major.
Only the music, marching and general effect scores will determine ratings
and over-all scores
and rankings. Since this is the first contest of the year it is our
goal to be understanding yet realistic in our scoring. Ratings / Rankings and Awards
The following scale will determine the score / ranking:
Music = 40%, Marching = 30%, General Effect = 30%
Superior = 80 - 100
Excellent = 60 - 79
Awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each class, as well as 1st, 2nd,
and 3rd place for horn line, percussion, color guard, and drum major.
Class 1 & 2 Grand Champion, and Class 3 & 4 Grand Champion, and
Over-All Grand
Champion.
What's Unique About The Contest?
We're glad you asked. All band directors and staff are asked to make
helpful taped comments
about the other performing bands. If a band participates in the Clinic
and Contest / Festival they
could leave with 15 or more tapes. No other contest in the state allows
the other directors to
make taped and written comments. When you leave, you will have more than
enough material to
read and listen to as you prepare for your future music, marching, and
guard rehearsals.
