The University of South Carolina is hosting a jazz clinic at the School of Music on November 21, 1998, from 9:00 - 3:30. Marching season will have concluded by then, and it will be a good time to get focused on other types of musical performance.

The clinic is open to all high school band members and their directors. There will be workshops for each section: trombones, trumpets, saxophones, rhythm section. There will be sessions on jazz improvisation, rehearsal techniques, and topics of interest to the directors as well as the students.

The price is $20, $15 to all members of IAJE. We invite directors to attend and play with the students.

Please share this information with interested students and have them fill out the form and return it by November 10, 1998.

This will give the students a head start towards having a good audition for all-state jazz band on January 23, 1999.

We will be rehearsing the music commissioned by the SCBDA for the All-State jazz band auditions. Copies of the music (score and parts) are available from me for $25. A cassette of the piece is available for $10.
