South Carolina Band Directors Association January 7, 2006 Happy New Year to everyone, I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday season and took advantage of the time to spend with your family and friends and time just to relax from the regimen of school responsibilities. It is time for directors to think about the SCMEA In-Service Conference that will be held again this year at the North Charleston Convention Center/Embassy Suites from February 9-11. SCBDA President-elect, Martin Dickey, has worked hard to plan workshops, clinics, and performing groups that will inform, motivate, and enlighten band directors at all levels. If you have not already done so, please go to bandlink to see the full schedule of events for our association. If you wish to get teaching certificate renewal points for your time in the various sessions, please get the person presiding at the sessions to sign your district forms. While attending the convention, please set aside time to visit the exhibits. As always, Austin Bobo has done a wonderful job with the exhibits. Austin has secured many exhibitors that you will certainly be interested in meeting so please stop by to introduce yourself to them. The fees that exhibitors pay help keep our convention affordable for all of us. Please make sure you take the time to visit the exhibits so these companies will continue to support our state association. Our SCBDA committees will meet on Friday morning during the first two sessions (8am and 9:30am, respectively) and every band director in our state is strongly encouraged to attend one or more of these meetings. You do not have to be a committee member to attend the meetings, voice your opinions or enter the discussions; however only committee members can vote on the motions before the committees. The convention will close out on February 11 with the SCBDA’s annual business meeting at 3pm. This is the chance for all directors to have their voice heard in the decisions of the SCBDA. Decisions of our association are made by the majority and in order for these to be true decisions by everyone, all South Carolina band directors should attend. Make sure you are there and encourage your fellow directors to do the same. In closing, I encourage you to talk with your administrators about the importance of attending the 2006 SCMEA In-Service Conference. The conference pre-registration form and fee of $70.00 must be mailed to Gus Moody by January 15 or the on-site registration fee will be $90.00. Thank you for your time and I look forward to seeing everyone at the 2006 SCMEA In-Service Conference in Charleston on February 9-11. Sincerely, Michael Foxworth |
