"Fall Meeting 2005"

I want to thank everyone that attended the fall meeting of the SCBDA on Saturday, September 10 at Ridgeview High School. This was an excellent meeting that was a great beginning to the school year with socializing, introductions, and focusing on the year's activities. All the committee chairs reported excellent planning and an attitude that will make each event even better than the year before. It is so awesome that our members are constantly looking for ways to improve our events. Keep thinking this way and our events will continue being extremely successful and educational for all.

Since our events work so well does that mean that we should just be happy that they are successful? Do we just revel in our immediate successes that have been the accepted norm or should we evaluate and reevaluate what we are doing? Does the old saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" apply to us?, Are we doing what we say in our handbook or do we need to change our handbook so that it says what we do? To some extent, we have become lax in the execution and interpretation of our by-laws and committee rules. Mostly we have just done what we "thought" was right or what customarily was done. It may be easier this way but is it right for our organization.

The purpose of appointing the By-Laws committee chaired by Les Hicken was to answer the above questions. The committee must revisit, evaluate, modify, correct and/or change any parts of our bylaws. Hopefully this careful scrutiny of the bylaws will allow everyone to understand very clearly the intent of the SCBDA. Directors should all have a crystal-clear understanding of all of the procedures and policies of our organization. The committee will present their findings and recommendations at the February business meeting and then propose changes that will then be voted upon by the body. Any directors that have any concerns or suggestions should contact Les Hicken.

Bravo to everyone in attendance at the fall meeting for you are truly working for the betterment of the SCBDA. Continue striving for excellence in all you do in YOUR SCBDA.
